Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality

This is a publication which explains the purpose, history and application of the Standards the Michigan Department of Education has developed to guide preschool and pre-kindergarten programs across the state to ensure all Michigan children come to Kindergarten with similar early education experiences. The first 30 pages of the document provide this explanation. Pages 31-50 describe characteristics of appropriate early learning environments. Pages 51-54 are standards to guide early childhood programs in the areas of child assessment and program evaluation. Early Learning Expectations for Three and Four Year Old Children begin on page 55 and go through page 140. Each standard is followed by a description of what children typically can be expected to demonstrate with respect to each standard and some examples of experiences and strategies that facilitate childrens’ development with respect to each standard.
